First Visit: What to Expect
First time to the chiropractor? No big deal. Here's what to expect.
1️⃣ Review of Medical History: I’ll take a detailed history about your condition in addition to other past medical history. It's important to be honest and to bring up symptoms that you think may not be related to your main complaint -- sometimes it can be!
2️⃣Examination: I’ll perform a thorough exam to find what's causing your condition. This is where I do some detective work... It may involve putting your joints through different ranges of motion, watching the way you walk or move, etc.
3️⃣Review/Report of Findings: I'll let you know what I'm thinking. More importantly, I'll ask you what YOU'RE thinking. I see this as an open dialogue to discuss what's causing symptoms or pain, what your options are and how we're going to take care of it.
Then, once we have it figured out, it's time for my favorite part...
4️⃣Treatment! This can involve a variety of options. Spinal manipulation, exercises, manual therapy such as Graston or trigger point therapy. Or maybe it's something that needs the help of a different specialist.
Remember, as a patient you play THE most important role in your care. Speak up and make sure you are heard! Inform yourself of all options so you can make the best choice for you.
