Inhale | Exhale: Breathing Biomechanics and Posture
Have you checked your posture today?
In a seated position, slouch your shoulders and round your back, mimicking what it would be like to have less than ideal posture. Take a deep, filling breath.
Now sit up straight. Roll your shoulders back and take a deep breath again. Much easier, right?
One of the most interesting cases I’ve had in practice was a young woman who was experiencing symptoms of fogginess and inability to focus at work, headaches, and tight neck muscles. We discovered that the root of her problems was due to improper posture and ergonomics. Can you believe that correcting her posture while sitting helped her brain get enough oxygen and eventually, the fogginess went away?
So the next time you’re working from home, be mindful of your posture. It’s great to set an alarm for every 45 minutes to do a “posture check”!
