6 Easy tips for Relieving Stress

For our “6 Tips” series, we chatted with licensed mental health counselor and PhD Candidate at the University of Miami, Carolina Scaramutti on tips for relieving stress. This is what she had to say.

In these difficult times it’s important to:

1. Be flexible and adaptable to change
2. Find ways to maintain fulfilling relationships (friends, parents, family, spouse, etc.)
3. Self care - may look like reading a book, scheduling 30 minutes to watch a funny show or making sure to get enough sleep
4. Disconnect from electronics and media for at least an hour during the day as stress comes from the news, comparing yourself to others, etc. (This is the most helpful!)
5. Practice mindfulness & positive self-talk
6. Seek help if needed - normalize the stigma around talking about mental health.

Mental health and physical health go hand in hand. You can’t have one without the other!
